Briarcliff Entertainment has acquired United States distribution rights to the animated feature film Stitch Head, and will release the family adventure with a wide theatrical release on October 29, just in time for Halloween. The 3D CG feature held its world premiere at Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June.
“Stitch Head is Frankenstein meets Monsters, Inc., an inspired blend of spooky, funny, and heartwarming storytelling with visually stunning animation by Assemblage Entertainment that will captivate audiences of all ages,” said Tom Ortenberg, CEO of Briarcliff Entertainment. “We’re thrilled to bring families together for a one-of-a-kind experience.”
Directed by and adapted for the screen by Steve Hudson (True North), Stitch Head is based on the first story in the children’s book series by Guy Bass.
Synopsis: Stitch Head follows the story of a small, forgotten creature living in a long-abandoned castle. Awoken by a Mad Professor, Stitch Head is tasked with protecting the professor’s other wildly inventive creations from the suspicious townspeople of Grubbers Nubbin.
The voice cast includes Asa Butterfield (Sex Education), Joel Fry (Our Flag Means Death), Alison Steadman (Better Man), Rob Brydon (The Amazing Maurice), comedian Fern Brady, Tia Bannon (The Midnight Sky) and Jamali Maddix (Hate Thy Neighbour).
Stitch Head is being repped worldwide by GFM Animation. The film is produced by Sonja Ewers and Mark Mertens. Executive producers include Adam Nagle, Mark Rau, Guy Collins, Tom Ortenberg, Ronnie Exley, Jeremy Ross and Oli Strong. The deal was negotiated by Ortenberg, Jessica Rose and Danielle Goodman Strong on behalf of Briarcliff and Guy Collins on behalf of GFM Animation, Aniventure and the producers. Briarcliff will release Stitch Head in association with Rabbits Black.
“Stitch Head is a delightful and funny family film and a terrific credit to the work of Steve, Sonja, Mark and the whole team,” said Guy Collins, Chairman of GFM Animation. “Bringing on board a brilliant U.S distributor such as Tom, is one of the final pieces of the puzzle and we are confident that we are on track to deliver a global hit.”
