Aardman, the Oscar-winning studio behind the popular man-on-the-street interview meets claymation whimsy series Creature Comforts, have whipped up a new animated campaign with similar building blocks for cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, Human Nature. A series of new commissioned shorts for social feature a variety of animal characters discussing today’s financial woes, and how crypto could help them increase their financial freedom.
The seven-part Human Nature series utilizes Aardman’s signature stop-motion artistry to bring to life examples of the real conversations people are having in the U.S.’s current economic climate in a charming and disarming way. Voice over captured from 70-plus self tapes and nine full-length interviews (16 cumulative hours of recordings) were reviewed to pull out the most resonant moments.
The Aardman team was not given any visual reference to the recorded speakers, instead building the shorts’ narratives and chosen critter stars based on the topics being discussed in these excerpts. For example, with the “Raccoon” family, their audition recording has a heavy metallic echo, so they chose them as raccoons in a dumpster.
The Human Nature shorts will roll out across Coinbase’s YouTube channel and social media accounts.
