DC Spotlights Animated ‘Aztec Batman’ Movie at SDCC

As a longstanding stalwart of the comics, media and pop culture biz, DC today announced its fan activations at Comic-Con International: San Diego (SDCC), centered around its multi-level DC Booth (#4544) on the convention show floor from Wednesday, July 23, through Sunday, July 27. Join DC at SDCC, where DC begins a decade-long celebration of comics, culminating in 100 years of publishing the World’s Greatest DC Super Heroes.

This year, the DC Booth will have a new, yet familiar, look as the company enters its 100th year by celebrating every era of its history in 10-year increments, starting at the beginning: 1935-1945. The 2025 DC Booth will feature art and experiences from this first decade of publication. This era saw the birth of not only DC, but of the comic-book art form with DC’s New Fun #1, Super Heroes and the DC Trinity: Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. Stop by the DC newsstand for a free 1940s-style Daily Planet newspaper, complete with classic DC Comics ads, pulled direct from DC’s comic-book archives. SDCC’s Daily Planet exclusive also delivers first looks at some of DC’s most anticipated titles releasing this year, as well as DC’s panel schedule and events offered during Comic-Con 2025.

DC is also showcasing collaborations with DC Worlds Collide, Progressive, Milk-Bone and Fortnite to offer limited edition SDCC convention exclusives in the DC Booth. You might meet a heroic furry friend when nonprofit organization Guide Dogs of America’s “Tender Loving Canines” program hosts a meet-and-greet with a legion of caped canines in the DC Booth!

Of course, DC will also be offering exclusives at the DC Shop and  presenting in-booth signings from esteemed artists.

Animation fans won’t want to miss the Warner Bros. Animation panel spotlighting Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios (Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires) on Thursday, July 24 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in Room 6BCF:

Join members of the cast and the creative team as they share footage and provide an inside look at how they are bringing the world of Batman into the captivating history and culture of Mesoamerica.

Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios (Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires) is an original animated feature-length film that places the iconic DC Super Hero against the backdrop of the captivating history of Mexico and immerses fans around the world in the exciting culture of Mesoamerica.

Yohualli escapes to Tenochtitlan to warn King Moctezuma and his high priest, Yoka, of the imminent danger. Using the bat god Tzinacan’s temple as a lair, Yohualli trains with his mentor and assistant, Acatzin, developing equipment and weaponry to confront the Spaniard invasion, protect Moctezuma’s temple, and avenge his father’s death.

Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, Anima and Chatrone, Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios is a Particular Crowd film based on characters from DC. This panel will be moderated by animation superstar Jorge R. Gutierrez, the creator of El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera, the director of The Book of Life and creator of Maya and the Three, who also voices one of the characters in Aztec Batman.
