In addition to welcoming Star Wars visionary George Lucas to his first appearance at the event this year, San Diego Comic-Con ’25 boasts a fascinating gallery exhibit celebrating the 20th anniversary of Lucasfilm Animation. The collection includes never-before-seen artwork (including an early concept sketches for multiple Star Wars animated series by Dave Filoni), as well as character maquettes and props.
Of special interest was a dedicated display for the first official still from the upcoming animated series Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, among an assortment of images spanning Lucasfilm Animation’s work on Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars Resistance, Star Wars: The Bad Batch, and the anthology series Tales of the Jedi, Tales of the Empire and Tales of the Underworld.
The exhibit also spotlights the evolution of characters like Ahsoka Tano who have made the transition from the animated to the live-action sides of the Star Wars galaxy, including a first look at Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger in the upcoming second season of Ahsoka for Disney+.
The Lucasfilm Animation booth on site is where fans can view a special message from Filoni himself, discussing the legacy of Star Wars, Lucas and animation’s role in the franchise. Lucas himself will participate in his first-ever panel in Hall H on Sunday to unveil the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, joined by filmmaker Guillermo del Toro and artist Doug Chiang.
