‘South Park’ Removed from International Paramount+ Platforms as Streaming Fate Remains Unclear

Fans of the crass satirical toon South Park outside the U.S. had an unwelcome surprise as the show was removed from Paramount+’s international services, as its overseas deal with the streamer has expired. In the States, South Park seasons remain available on HBO Max although this $500 million agreement has also expired and remains under renewal negotiations.

Tensions are high between series creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s prodco Park County and Comedy Central/Paramount+ parent company Paramount Global, which is in the process of being acquired by Skydance. Park County has threatened legal action against Paramount Global, alleging the company is interfering in their streaming rights negotiations (including bids from HBO Max owner Warner Bros. Discovery and Netflix).

In an investor call in May, Paramount Global Co-CEO Chris McCarthy promised that “starting this July, [South Park] will be coming to Paramount+ in the U.S.”

Comedy Central, which co-owns South Park prodco South Park Digital Studios with Parker and Stone, recently announced that the Season 27 premiere of the show has been pushed back to Wednesday, July 23. In response to the announcement, the creators released an emphatic statement through the official South Park X account, stating, “This merger is a s—show and it’s f—ing up South Park.”

Parker and Stone are set to participate in the Comedy Central Adult Animation panel at San Diego Comic-Con (Thurs., July 24 in Hall H), alongside Mike Judge (Beavis and Butt-head) and Andy Samberg (Digman!).
