La Cabane and Thuristar have announced that four major European broadcasters have signed up for the 3D animation special A Lamb’s Stew: Canal+ in France, VRT-Ketnet in Belgium, ZDF in Germany and RTS in Switzerland have joined this original project from Joeri Christiaen, produced by Perrine Gauthier.
A Lamb’s Stew is a 26-minute modern tale for a family audience. The film tells the story of Billie, a young lamb determined to prove that sheep are just as brave as other animals. Billie devises a plan to lure a wolf into a trap, only to realize he may not be the monster she was led to believe. Through her journey, the story challenges assumptions and celebrates individuality, inviting viewers to not judge a sheep by its wool, nor a wolf by its fur.
Produced in the open-source Blender software, the film is led by Joeri Christiaen (Mush-Mush and the Mushables, My Knight and Me) as director and art director. Christiaen is also the film’s scriptwriter; he worked with Claire Paoletti (Shooom’s Odyssey) as story consultant during the project’s initial development phase, and with Julia Smuts Louw (Star Wars: Visions – Aau’s Song, The Smeds and the Smoos) as story editor for the final script.
The cast includes Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings, Planet of the Apes), T’Nia Miller (Sex Education, Years and Years) and up-and-coming talent Iris Onyejiuwa in the lead roles.
“We’re thrilled to welcome these four excellent partners at the table of A Lamb’s Stew, a film that illustrates the creative ambition and diversity of projects we strive for,” says Perrine Gauthier, co-founder of La Cabane, partner of Thuristar and producer of the special.
These commitments were confirmed just a few months after the project was pitched at Cartoon Forum 2024, where it ranked as the most attended presentation, both among European co-productions and in terms of global presence.
A Lamb’s Stew is the first original special developed by La Cabane and Thuristar, following the production of four Mush-Mush specials, including “The Guardian of the Forest,” which was nominated for an International Emmy Award. The new special has already received support from the MEDIA Creative Europe Program, the CNC, the Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF) and the Procirep and Angoa.
