European Pubcasters Join Forces with CARTOON to Boost Animation

Building on the co-development initiative launched in 2023, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), France Télévisions and CARTOON are once again joining forces to develop a collaborative model for animation. This model will focus on the collective financing of a project to be selected by EBU members during Cartoon Forum.

The initiative is renewed for this year’s edition of the Toulouse pitching event with the selection of at least one project, further strengthening the EBU network’s longstanding commitment to animated content and aligning with the current priority of engaging young audiences across member countries. Fifteen European public broadcasters have already confirmed their participation.

Cartoon Forum participants will have the opportunity to see the materials developed for last year’s selected project, My Life Is a Manga (pictured above), produced by French studios Brain Comet and Blue Spirit, on Thursday afternoon during the event (September 15-18 in Toulouse, France | cartoon-media.eu/forum).

At the end of this year’s Cartoon Forum, the EBU participating broadcasters will come together to select their top 10 projects. To finalize the selection of one or two winning projects that will receive development funding, the EBU may contact the producers of the shortlisted projects to request additional materials. This will allow broadcasters to review any missed pitches and make a more informed decision. By the end of the year, EBU will announce the winning project.
