MeTV Toons Celebrates ‘The Flintstones’ 65th Anniversary

MeTV Toons, the only TV network dedicated exclusively to classic animation, celebrates the 65th anniversary of The Flintstones television debut with The Flintstones: 65 Years & Still Rock’n!, an all-day marathon event of the beloved animated series on Sunday, August 31 beginning at 6 a.m. ET/PT. The marathon will highlight back-to-back favorite episodes from the classic series, plus the full-length animated films A Man Called Flintstone and The Flintstones Meet the Jetsons.

The Flintstones premiered on September 30, 1960 and aired for six seasons on ABC, becoming the first animated television series to air in primetime and paving the way for later primetime cartoon series including The Simpsons, Family Guy and others. The show was also the first animated series to be nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series. Presumed to be based on The HoneymoonersThe Flintstones was produced by the legendary animation studio Hanna-Barbera and was aimed at adult audiences. Sixty-five years later, The Flintstones remains a pop culture phenomenon to this day and airs everyday on MeTV Toons at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT.
