The Academy Presents The Art of Illustration

In conjunction with the “Icons of Animation” exhibit at the Society of Illustrators in Manhattan (June 4 – August 16), The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences will be hosting a special screening and panel with “Icons of Animation” Bill Plympton, Peter de Seve and William Joyce. The evening of admiration kicks off at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 5 at The Academy Theater. The artists will present a series of clips of their work before engaging in a discussion about the craft of animation with moderator J.J. Sedelmaier.

The Society of Illustrators event official synopsis reads: The art of animation dates back to the early 19th century, even before Thomas Edison announced his creation of the kinetoscope in 1889. The machine projected a 50-foot length of film in approximately 13 seconds. This art form has come a long way and continues to evolve. Animation today is a multi-billion dollar industry. Several of the top ten box-office hits last year were animated films. This exhibit showcases four of the greatest animation artists living and working in the field today: William Joyce, Carlos Nine, Billy Plympton and Peter de Seve.

Tickets are on sale at oscars.org; $5 general admission, $3 for Academy Members and students with valid ID.
