Animated Titles Dominated 2013 Global Box Office

The animation community got some great news as the final numbers for the 2013 box office came out. Universal/Illumination’s Despicable Me 2 ($393.5 million), Disney/Pixar’s Monsters University ($268.5 million), Disney’s Frozen ($256 million), Fox/DreamWorks’ The Croods ($187.17 million) and Sony Animation’s Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs ($116.598 million) and Fox/Blue Sky’s Epic 107.518 million, Disney’s Planes ($90.288 million) and DreamWorks’ Turbo ($83. 028 million) were the top money-earners of the year.

On the VFX side, Disney/Marvel’s Iron Man 3 was the number-one movie of the year, with $409.014 million domestically, followed by Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire at number two with $393/475 million, Warner Bros.’ Man of Steel ($291.045 million), Warner Bros.’ Gravity ($254.587 million), Disney’s Oz the Great and Powerful ($234.912 million) and Paramount’s Star Trek Into Darkness with $228.912 million rounding out the top 10.
