Netflix will unveil the second season of DreamWorks TV’s CG-animated preschool series Mighty Monsterwheelies on May 5. This homage to the Universal Monster vault will offer more action-packed hijinks and rescue missions in their home of Motorvania. The voice cast includes Tru Valentino, Grace Lu, Sandra Saad, Cal Brady, Matt Lowe, Chester Rushing, Weird Al Yankovic, Sean Astin and Ashley Park.
In the exclusive clip, the Monsterwheelies discover that mad scientist Dr. Jalopy invented a shrink ray that actually works … because they were accidentally shrunk! Bolts, Sonnie and Sweeps must trek all the way across the junk yard in order to become big again. But the journey is a bit of an obstacle course when they’re mini.
In the second season of the show, the Mighty Monsterwheelies take to the street, sea and sky, embarking on thrilling adventures to protect the citizens of their beloved Motorvania. The team faces an avalanche while rescuing skiers in the Carpathian Mountains, tries to predict unpredictable weather with Wendy the Weather Van, and even has to rescue themselves from Dr. Jalopy’s shrink ray! These heroes never leave a problem unsolved as they go headlight to headlight with trouble and save the day.
“We have a bunch of fun, new characters this season including a few vehicles we haven’t seen in the show before such as an airplane, a traditional monster truck and even Motorvania’s version of Big Foot,” the show’s talented executive producer Stephanie Simpson tells Animation Magazine. “We’ve also got some wacky inventions that wreak havoc and put the Monsterwheelies in some interesting situations!”
She adds, “We really enjoy taking inspiration from some of our favorite movies and putting a little Mighty Monsterwheelies twist on them. In this new season, we drew inspiration not just from classic monster movies, but also from movies like Twister or Honey I Shrunk the Kids, even Top Gun. Every episode allows us to play with the elements of action, comedy and monsteriness in a new way. We also love that we get to take these iconic monsters and make them the heroes of the story. Monsterwheelies always find a way to adapt whatever makes them different or unique into a possible solution to a problem. No one is ever told they have to change something about themselves or shy away from what makes them different; it’s always ‘you can do this because you are different’”
