Singapore-based Mokster Films has picked up worldwide distribution rights to Welcome to Dolly’s House, the first major rotoscoped 2D animated feature production in Taiwan. Presenting a modern twist on a classic Song Dynasty story from the Taiping Guangji, the film from multimedia promotion and IP development shop Deep Sky Object Co. Ltd. will launch sales at the Cannes Film Market.
According to Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA), Welcome to Dolly’s House is:
[The] first uncanny and trendy Taiwanese animation, combining elements of invocation, friendship and dolls, with brain-twisting and fast-paced storytelling, as well as profound character-building, bringing to the audience a brand new oriental fantasy feature film.
Inspired by a novel written one thousand years ago, the story is about an awakening doll seeking for her beautiful nature. A young YouTuber, Princess Maria, is determined to reveal the enigmatic secrets of Madame Dolly, a sorceress who can turn lifeless dolls into human beings. But as Princess Maria delves deeper, suppressed and painful memories resurface within her…
Welcome to Dolly’s House is directed by Rady Fu and Liu Yu-shu (a.k.a. Tree Muta), created/executive produced by Deep Sky Object’s Seven Ych and produced by Dennis Wu. The rotoscoped performance and voice cast features Ai-ning “Pipi” Yao (Because of You), Teresa Daley (Days We Stared at the Sun) and Yi-tai Chiu (We Are Champions).
Director Yu-shu previously helmed the animated features Shiro — Hero of Heroes and The Mice War. Fu wrote and directed the live-action drama See You Again.
The film is slated for release in 2026 after four years of production.
