‘Of Shadows & Wings’ Nabs Two Locarno Awards

Elice Meng and Eleonora Marinoni’s first ever animated short Of Shadows & Wings has been awarded the Silver Pardino and the Youth Jury Award in the national competition at this year’s Locarno Film Festival. The film is a French-Swiss coproduction of Vivement Lundi! and Nadasdy Film.

Of Shadows & Wings is inspired by a painting created by Meng and the bird-people (or “oishommes”) she created for the piece, titled “Where are the birds without wings going?” The film’s story revisits Plato’s Allegory of the Cave and weaves a tale of love and the role of an individual within a group. The short is narrated by Cesar-winning actor Mathieu Amalric.

Funding for Of Shadows & Wings was provided by RTS, CNC, Office Federal de la Culture, Region Bretagne, Cineforom, Loterie Romande, Departement de Loire-Atlantique, TVR and the City of Rennes.
